Long Term Care Insurance

Current estimates project that 70% of our population will need some type of long term care in their lives.
Because of the costs associated with LTC, more and more people are turning to long term care insurance plans to
make sure they can afford the care they may need.
The three primary levels of long term care are: Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, and Home
Health Care. While most people would prefer a Home Health Care situation, it can become quite expensive if
around-the-clock care is required. The next step of course is moving into a care facility. However, not all
Cincinnati care facilities are created equal, and ultimately your budget will determine the quality of your care
provider.
Many people assume that Medicare or their health insurance will cover the cost of long term care. This is not
true. Only short term stays are covered by Medicare, and some health insurance plans won’t even pay for that. The
only government agencies that carry the cost of LTC are Medicaid and the Veterans Administration. In both cases
their standard of care is known for being below average.
Long term care insurance provides you and your family many more options when it comes to choosing your
provider...including Home Health Care. The key is to buy long term care insurance before you need it. Premiums go
up as you get older, so the earlier you enroll the less you will pay in the long run. Ideally, you would commit to
long term care insurance before the age of 50.
